Teaching clinic
We run two clinics here at the college. The teaching clinic and our practitioner clinic.
In the teaching clinic patients are treated by college students in their third and final year of training. They work under the close supervision of senior staff.
The teaching clinic is open on Saturdays and Tuesdays. Treatments will ordinarily last longer than in the practitioner clinic due to the process of supervision.
People come to our clinics with a variety of complaints. Often people will come for treatment even when nothing is medically wrong, they just want to feel better in themselves. When you come for treatment your acupuncturist will spend considerable time asking you questions and getting to know you.
In this way you will receive a treatment that not just aims to relieve you of your symptoms but also to help you feel better. Frequently patients will comment, ‘I’m feeling better in myself’ which refers to such things as increased energy and vitality, greater enjoyment of life and greater confidence. Some people come for preventative treatment that is aimed at maintaining health and improving a sense of wellbeing.
Please note that the acupuncture teaching clinic is not suitable for those patients with severe depression or in crisis, if you are struggling with thoughts of self-harm and not coping, we recommend that you first contact your GP directly or the mental health crisis team. There are good resources out there to support you, here is a link for further information. Treatment and support for suicidal feelings - Mind
