Video: Can children really have acupuncture?
Testimonials
"Our daughter last year went from being a super confident child to suddenly becoming very anxious. We had to re-locate due to work as a family so she had to move house, school and further away from grandparents. This completely knocked her confidence and she started to get separation anxiety. It became so bad that Sunday nights she would be physically sick, thinking about having to go to school and leave us. Even after the first treatment we started to see a difference and how our daughter began to get emotionally stronger. Now a few treatments on we have our confident little girl back who runs into school without looking back."
- A.L (6 year old girl with anxiety)
"My son was really struggling with his emotions, his feelings of frustration and low self esteem. After just a few sessions transformation could be seen in every aspect. This had a direct and positive impact on our whole family. As a teenager who struggled with learning he needed so much support. Now at 15 he can articulate his own physical body awareness and emotions, it has balanced his moods and his whole approach to life just says ‘happiness’ – it shines from his eyes.."
- R.C (14 year old boy with dyslexia)
"After initial treatments my daughter’s infections reduced in frequency and severity, there was 4 months between her next infection, then 6 months, then a year. During the time she has been treated by Rebecca my daughter has not taken antibiotics."
- A.T (3 year old girl with recurrent UTI)
Paediatric teaching clinic
At the college, we run a student children's acupuncture clinic where babies, children and teenagers are treated by fully qualified acupuncturists studying post-graduate paediatrics. Practitioners and treatments are closely supervised by paediatric acupuncture expert, author and course leader Rebecca Avern.
The children's clinic runs fortnightly for 8 weeks in autumn during the final module of the paediatric diploma. The course of treatments are short but impactful with a strong focus on home guidance, which includes acupressure and massage for parents to support their child in between and after sessions. At the end of the clinical, if a child requires ongoing treatment, they will have the opportunity to continue treatment with another paediatric practitioner.
We see babies, children and teenagers of all ages who may be struggling with physical, behavioural or emotional symptoms. We have seen children...
- who are too anxious to attend school
- who have trouble concentrating or who are hyperactive
- who are struggling with eating disorders or self-harm
- who are having trouble sleeping or bedwetting
- who have tummy aches, chronic coughs or headaches
- who have struggles related to being on the autism spectrum
- who are struggling with a sense of well being or depression
- And many more...
We welcome ALL babies, children and teenagers and will always do our best to help them to thrive.
Acupuncture is so much more than needles and practitioners are taught multiple gentle, non-needle techniques. Tiny, child-friendly needles are used only when a child is comfortable with being needled.
